PUNE: A 24-year-old man and his female friend were arrested here on Wednesday for abusing a traffic police officer and a constable when given a challan for riding a two-wheeler without a helmet.
“They shot videos on their cellphones and threatened to make it public,” sub-inspector Prashant Pasalkar of the Bhosari police told TOI.
The duo was taken to the Bhosari police station, where they again created a ruckus.
The man, who runs a car-washing centre in Bhosari, and his 23-year-old friend have been arrested under section 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of the Indian Penal Code. “The duo has been lodged at the Yerawada Central Prison,” Pasalkar said.
It may be noted that on Wednesday, around 12.30pm, traffic constable Babasaheb Pakhare stopped the man for not wearing a helmet.
When the constable handed him a challan, he and the woman started to hurl abuses.
“A police officer, who was at the chowk, tried to pacify them. The duo abused him as well and recorded the video of the incident,” Pasalkar said.
He added, “They threatened to post the video on social media and tried to push the officer.”
