The state will provide uniforms with the same look to over 64.28 lakh students from Std I to Std VIII. Students will have two uniforms, one decided by the school management committee, a prevalent practice, and the other chosen by the state government for students across the state.
It was decided that the identical attire on the lines of scout and guide uniform would be worn on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
Commissioner of education Suraj Mandhare said, “Free uniforms will be provided to tribal children, and children belonging to below the poverty line in this phase. In the academic year 2023-24, under Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan these uniforms will be distributed for free. However, only one uniform will be given on the first day of school.”
But. zilla parishad education officers have received orders from school committees to provide uniforms.
Mandhare said, “The scheme has been permanently excluded from direct benefit transfer process. Uniforms will be given by the school management committee. The proposal of Rs 224 crore funding has been approved by the Union government. Instructions to provide uniforms on the first day have been given.”
