Pune: The Bhosari police are searching for a man suspected of hacking an 18-year-old college student’s phone via a messenger app to access her private photos and blackmail her.
After collecting Rs 23,500, he made another demand for Rs1 lakh, which prompted the girl to approach the police on Thursday and file a complaint.
An officer from the Bhosari police said that according to the complainant, on May 15 an unknown man messaged her private photos of herself. “She was shocked as the photographs were accessed from her cellphone,” the officer said.
He further said after sometime, she received a call and the caller threatened to post her photos on social media if she did not pay. “The girl transferred money in various amounts
“Most recently, when he asked for Rs1 lakh, she informed her parents and then came to us,” the officer added.
The accused has been booked under sections 354-A (sexual harassment), 354-D (stalking), 384 (extortion) of the Indian Penal Code and the relevant sections of the Information and Technology Act.
