Based on the complaint lodged by Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar resident Chandrakant Navpute, the Cidco police booked the man under sections 295-A (for deliberate acts that insult the religion or religious beliefs of any class of people) and 153-A (for promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence and language and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony) of IPC.
Man booked over social media post
The complainant had on Friday night said he saw the post suggesting celebration of Aurangzeb’s 364th coronation ceremony on June 13 and “it has hurt my sentiments”.
Cidco police inspector Sambhaji Pawar told TOI, “We have registered the FIR and efforts are on to arrest the man for posting the message on his social media account.”
Barely 24 hours ago, the Beed police had booked a 14-year-old boy from Ashti on the charge of putting up a social media message eulogising Aurangzeb. Four days ago, the display of Aurangzeb’s posters in Ahmednagar district and a social media post glorifying Tipu Sultan in Kolhapur had triggered violence.
Amid all this, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Ambadas Danve took to social media and accused BJP of “bringing out the ghost of Aurangzeb”. Danve also expressed concern over minors getting involved in such incidents.
