PUNE: A 28-year-old IT professional working with a multinational software company injured her right leg, hand and waist in a fall from her two-wheeler, after a motorcyclist touched her inappropriately in a bid to molest her. The incident occurred in Vimannagar, around 11.40pm on Monday.
Airport police’s senior inspector VT Sonde on Wednesday said, “The woman was on her way to an eatery for dinner from her office, located in the commerce zone. The biker came from behind and touched her inappropriately. Taken aback, she lost her balance and fell off her two-wheeler onto the road.”
He added, “We are analyzing CCTV camera footage from around the spot to establish the identity of the biker and see what routes he used before and after the crime. We hope to detect this case at the earliest.”
The woman told TOI, “I took a break from work and was talking to my mother on the phone while on the way to an eatery near the Symbiosis college. A man came from the right side, touched me inappropriately and pulled on the collar of my shirt and my gold chain. I tried to gain control over my two-wheeler, but in vain.”
She said, “I was in a state of shock. How can such an incident happen in Maharashtra, regarded as one of the safest states in India? I got up and picked up my bag, the damaged vehicle and smart phone with the help of passersby. The biker sped away. I am suffering from severe pain and facing difficulties when I walk.”
The woman said, “The stretch where the incident took place is dark, but illuminated by lights near CCTV cameras. An eyewitness has given a description of the man to the police. I have lodged a complaint relating to charges of molestation and mischief causing damage under sections of the Indian Penal Code.”
