Barely a week after the high security Yerawada Central Jail administration activated smart card-based inmate calling facility for the prisoners, a major security breach was detected when prison authorities found four mobile handsets inside the prison complex on Thursday.
Fifteen days ago, the prison authority had found a mobile phone during a security check exercise which had put a serious question mark over security arrangements in place inside the jail.
Jail officer Veeru Khalbate has lodged an FIR with Yerawada Police Station where he stated that four mobile phones were found hidden in the jail wall near Madi Yard.
According to officials, some jail guards on duty at Prison Press area which is located near the jail staff residential quarters toward the rear gate of the prison found the four mobiles in a box on Tuesday evening. Three of the mobile phones had a SIM card and the state jail department has taken serious view of the recovery. Investigators said that the mobiles were flicked inside the jail through a ball.
