PUNE: A computer science student lost Rs 3.56 lakh between May 3 and 8 after falling for the ‘press like and earn money’ scam online.
The Kothrud police registered an FIR on Wednesday after the Pune cyber police verified his complaint.
Senior inspector Hemant Patil of Kothrud police told TOI, “The student, pursuing his higher studies from a college at Talegaon Dabhade, had some free time and wanted to utilise it by working online. That’s when he received a message about working from home. The sender promised him handsome returns.”
According to the police, the student then responded to this message thinking he will earn good money. The fraudsters sent him links of many videos, which he would like. However, they did not pay him anything but shared a webpage, showing his work and payment allocated against his name. Eventually, they asked him to do prepaid tasks for more profit. The student agreed and transferred Rs 3.56 lakh to an e-wallet.
