Among other victims, the family of Zoya Shaikh, a Muslim, too has been requested to consider the proposal for mass cremation. If the family agrees, the cremation is planned at the crematorium near Trisharan Chowk, for which preparations have already begun.
Sources said a Maulana too has been requested to attend the ritual, if the Shaikh family consents to completing the rituals as per Islamic norms alongside the Hindu rituals for others. Buldhana collector HP Tummod said the cremation will take place only if all the families agree to a common cremation. “If the families disagree, then DNA analysis would be the only option,” he said.
Tummod said special arrangements have been made at a hotel for the families of the deceased, where they would be accommodated with food overnight to be able to complete the formalities. Deputy director of Regional Forensic Science Laboratory, Nagpur, Vijay Thakare said teams from Nagpur and Amravati would be camping at Buldhana district hospital for the next three days to complete the formalities. The results would take around a week, he said, adding the samples would be taken to the Amravati laboratory.
