The techie who was promised a part-time job in April, filed a complaint application to the cyber crime cell of the Pimpri Chinchwad police and a case was registered with the Wakad police on Monday.
An officer from the Wakad police said the complainant received an unknown on April 18, where a woman, claiming to be the manager of a private company., offered him a part-time job, which involved liking videos and following celebrity social media profiles. He was offered Rs150 per like and within two days the victim earned Rs9,000.
“Believing the crooks the techie went on investing money and transferred Rs6.9 lakh before realising he was being duped,” the officer said. He even borrowed money from his brother, the police officer added.
