The hospital administration claimed that B J Medical College was the first such government facility in the state to appoint an independent team that would treat the patients requiring immediate attention after admission or during course of treatment.
Dr Sanjeev Thakur, Dean at BJ Medical College said, “The ‘Blue Code Team’ team will be ready to provide medical assistance to the critically ill patients within five minutes of hospitalisation or even before formal admission.
The team will include three intensivists, three doctors and six nurses.”
He said, “The contact number of the team will be placed on the facade of the hospital as well as on every floor and in every ward . Till now, now only private hospitals had such a team.”
The team consisting of cardiologists, emergency medicine specialists and expert paramedical staff will provide immediate emergency help in case a patient collapses in the ward or even before admission.
As per the earlier process, the patient requiring emergency services had to be taken the ward concerned where the doctors would provide treatment. But under the “code blue” system. the team would treat the patients on the spot.
The team will help with emergency treatment to save the life of the patient in case of pulse stop, heart stop, breathing stop.
The aim is to help reduce the mortality rate of patients. The team will also keep essential equipment to give expert CPR techniques to the patient on the spot.
